chris if you look in the brass bits string in the main forum under superstructure you will find a picture of the real thing.

the tallest of the two towers ,the hatch and ladder face the back but the shortest one that goes on the lollipop as you put it the ladder faces forward like this picture shows from another persons build. hope this helps chris. shane

Chis, the grey decks you are referring to are those which are metal ones on the ship, we will be getting brass bits to fit and paint gey much later on. Ref the planked decks, you cannot fix them until after you have painted the brass side walls, unless you have painted those brass bits prior to fixing. My decks are varnished with a spray can of satin polyurethane varnish which is both waterproof and UV protected, esssential if you intend sailing your model.

Think you are confused Chris, on the various pictures you will find planked decks, which must be varnished, and also a lot of decks which will be covered in brass, some ribbed, which will be painted grey. Most of these will be on the front superstructure, although there are a couple on the after one as well. Note that if you fix a planked deck down too early, then it is virtually impossible to spray paint anything later fixed on. A lot of the smaller deck fittings, such as ventilators will have to be painted before fixing down.
