I know I'm a bit previous, but on the paining scheme is just a general 'battleship grey' or is it a certain shade?

Can any body clarify whether the swastikas on the for and aft decks should have the red 'banner' around them or not. The two websites above appear to contradict.

However looked more deeply and it appears that red banners were present pre operation Rheinubung, but not during. Still, if anyone can clarify it would be appreciated

You need to give them a good wash to remove the release agent, which is what stops them sticking to the mould when they are cast. Once you've done that they paint up just like anything else.

In the link of the colorschemes you see that not all the things on the ship were the same with all schenes... this is also described below the pictures. in the beginning not all deck fittings were fitted yet. also, after a while the two lowest lifeboats were removed...
I wonder if hachette/amati has paid attention to this on their model?

Some people spend years researching models to that level of detail. (Usually the sort of people who produce exhibition winning models that make mine look very lame indeed !!)

I favour doing the colour scheme used from March to May 1941 during the sea trials but I think getting the stripes on the superstructure straight will be a major pain in the six.

I too will be going for the stripes on the side of the superstructure and was planning on using a laser line at the correct angle to mark it out. This should give me an easy to follow line that should follow all the contours and hopefully make it a little easier. If you have a laser this might help with your "pain in the six".

I assume the laser line is made with one of these fancy 'laser spirit level gadgets'? If so I feel a visit to Ebay coming on!!

That is correct chill. I have a small Black & Decker laser that cost me around £20. I have not used this method before for making out and painting a superstructure but I did not fancy the taping up required. So I am hoping this will help or it will be back to the old tape and plenty of patience. (However I do have a lovely corner shelving unit that is perfectly straight).
