Has been a coupla weeks since I've been on board. Good news though Only 3 sleeps and Oz Newsagencies should be passing over the first of the second planking and the modified resin stern piece. At last............... Last week I found a deck plan of the Bismarck on the internet, and its large and detailed. The big plus............it has a bar scale. I had to rumage through my old drafting equipment to find a 1:200 scale rule, then a bit of tooing and froing with a photo editing program......lo and behold, I now have a usable plan Whats more, the deck houses fit perfectly. The stern section of the model is a little more beamy, but overall length and width is almost spot on. Too lazy to cough up $90.00 for Brower's book so far Swanrail. But I can feel an essential need for it looming closer. This will be very handy for deck planking in the near future. Couple of pics to show progress to date Enthusiastic helper Baz

Hi Baz,
Please can you confirm that the plan is not copyrighted material. I don't allow distributing copyrighted material. It gets me into trouble with the publishers (has happened once already), and of course, it's morally worng.
Thanks.

Ended up getting mine through Amazon Canada. Can't remember the exact price but it was less than $90, am guessing it was about $50 - $60 AUD. used.addall.com/Regards Greg.

I think that I've found the site that sells Baz's plans, www.foxcad.com.au/Drawings/Bismarck.htm but be warned they are eye-wateringly expensive; about USD200. Mark, I was wondering whether you might entice them into providing a special offer on the website for these plans at a more realistic price? David

Big news guys Received first lot of second planking & the 2nd resin stern piece today. Bad new is ..........the new stern piece is way off alignment. But................if I chamfer the bottom on the stern decking enough it will sit in such a way that the stern anchor recess will be close to its correct position............... Looks like I need to bury myself in the shed this weekend Baz

Hey Baz,
Is that part 70 by any chance?
Does it stick out from the deck piece too much?
If you can wait till this weekend I will be posting some pics of how i have modded this piece to get the anchor piece in a much better position. Should also have the plank bent round it too.

Yep AFK..................... That be the one. I was hoping it would stick out from the deck so I can add the toe rail. This is my first real opportunity to do some meaty mods. Will post some before and after pics. Baz

Mark
Is there any chance of moving this Topic to the Build Dairy section please. I will use it to post my construction progress
You can even change the title to something like Bazza's build
Thanks

Hi Baz,
Well you could do what I am doing and cut Part 70 up? Basically I cut it in 2 then cut off the anchor piece. I then cut a matching size piece out of the deck to match the anchour piece and attached it. I am then going to use part 66 (I think thats the number) to pad out the piece and then sand it down. Will have pics ready soon so you get what I mean.

For all those who have not as yet fitted the resin stern piece, here is my plan of attack. I have waited patiently for issue 35 and piece 70/A When I initially test fitted it, I was a bit disappointed as the fit between the deck and the framework looked terrible, or so I thought. But the fix was simple, and it brought the anchor housing closer to its real life location. ( I will talk about this in a later posting) Once in place as a test, I was pleased to note I had an approximate 1mm lip for most the second planking. It does get up to about 1.5mm as it reaches the deck, but I'll fix this by using a 1mm timber filler where the rubber band is before I fix the stern decking So thats my proposed attack this weekend Afk. Minimal cutting and shutting............. Baz

Well I am getting there with my mod of the part and should have it pretty much done this weekend then just have to sand it into shape. Your going to have to do some sanding as well by the looks of it as it sticks out quite abit beyond the decking, and thats even when you do bend the plank round it. I am pretty sure once i fit the bent plank on mine it should get rid of all of the overhang. Anyway have fun with it lol.
